The Engineers Arms was in Commercial Road. In the 1886 Johns's Directory it is 160 Commercial Road at the junction with Raglan Street. Charles Pearce was the proprietor from 1885 to 1894. Before he had been the proprietor of the Oddfellows Arms, 78 Commercial Street. The 1881 census gives his occupation(s) as 'Engine Fitter and Publican'. Maybe that's why the Beaufort Arms was renamed Engineers Arms when he moved there.
